Twinsie Tuesday: Oldest Untried

14 May

Today we’re showing our oldest untried polish. I don’t actually have that many untried polishes. When I first started blogging, I did a 30 days of untrieds challenge and I haven’t collected many since then.

Burst_polkadot_copper_teal (9) WLcopyI chose two polishes that I hadn’t previously used; Wet ‘n Wild Cougar Attack and NOPI Khloe Had a Little Lam-Lam. It’s been a long time since I’ve done a burst type design, so I busted out the tape and went at it. The polka dots broke the look up a little. It’s an unconventional color match up, but I really like it.

Art Deco Nails

25 Apr

I want to like this mani more than I actually do. Maybe it’s the fact that I did it with my non-dominant hand so it’s a little too far from perfect. Or maybe it’s my color choices.

ArtDeco_yellow_teal_gold (3) WLcopyI feel like Color Club Gossip Column is showing a lot darker here than it actually is. It’s a fantastic deep teal color, but it seems more like a navy over American Apparel Butter. My gold (or is it more bronze?) outlines are acrylic. I may try this again with a different color palate. We’ll see.

Twinsie Tuesday: Sweet Sixteen

9 Apr

Happy Tuesday! We’ve got a fun theme today. Sweet Sixteen; something our sixteen year old self would have liked. I’ve always taken care of my nails and tried to keep them pretty. Nicely manicured nails make me feel feminine. To be honest, when I was sixteen I probably would have sported a traditional, white tipped french manicure. I tried time and time again to use those french manicure kits from the drug store and could never achieve a pretty manicure.

That said, I did not choose to do a french today. I was sixteen in the nineties. The grunge era. I was very much a grunge and skater wannabe. You can laugh. It’s okay. I roll my eyes and shake my head when I look back at some of the pictures.

Grunge (4) WLcopySo I was going for a grunge look with this. I think I achieved it. Hubby agrees. I started with a base of China Glaze Platinum Silver then added little bits of Essie Soul Mate, Milani Fresh Teal and Essie Alligator Purse.  To smear and streak it, I used a brush that was about the same width as my nail, dipped it in acetone, dabbed it off them brushed it down my nail.

Grunge (11) WLcopyThe way the colors bleed down the surface of my nail reminds me of something that has rusted and is all weathered. I don’t know why that says grunge to me, but it does. I guess the other thing that ties this to my sixteen year old self is that I had a metallic silver polish like this back then and wore it on my toes all the time. It was for sure the cool polish in my neck of the woods at the time. What were you like when you were sixteen?

Gradient Argyle Skittles Easter Nails

29 Mar

Is that a long enough title for you?  Gradient, argyle skittles for Easter.  This is such a happy manicure.Argyle_gradient_pastels (3) WLcopyI love how many manicures can be done with the same set of polishes. I’ve been using these same polishes for the past several manicures.

Argyle_gradient_pastels (5) WLcopyFor this mani I used Revlon Cloud, Wet ‘n Wild On a Trip, China Glaze Peachy Keen, Sinful Colors Hazard, Jordana Orangesicle, Essie Borrowed and Blue, Sinful Colors Aquamarine, American Apparel Butter, Sinful Colors Pull Over, Barry M Mint Green, Color Club Edie and Milani Fresh Teal. I used a white acrylic for the stitches.

Twinsie Tuesday: Favorite Color

26 Mar

Happy Tuesday everyone! Today is all about our favorite colors. My very most favorite color is red, but I wasn’t feeling a red mani. Various shades of aqua and teal are a very close back up. And what better color to pair up with these aquatic colors than coral.

I really love this gradient. I used three colors to achieve it. I started with Barry M Mint Green then added Color Club Edie and Milani Fresh Teal. I did just the gradient on my left hand and it was so pretty by itself.

My roses are Sinful Colors Hazard. This seems like a summertime mani. I’m always a season ahead of myself. I don’t really even like summer. I need to slow back down and enjoy spring.
