Plaid Nails

2 May

I’ve got some cute, comfy little red canvas shoes that have a red and blue plaid on the inside. I love little details like that. They make me happy.
Plaid_red_white_blue (3) WLcopyI used NYX Girls White for my base color then NYX Ink and China Glaze Phat Santa for my stripes.

Plaid_red_white_blue (7) WLcopyI did this mani with my left hand. This is one of those designs that I wasn’t all that thrilled about until I got the top coat on. If you ask me, the top coat really is the crown jewel of any manicure. It can take a mediocre mani and turn it in to something awesome.

Nautical Nails

18 Apr

I’m not a nautical person. I’m actually terrified of open water. No, not just open water. Any body of water that is deeper than I am tall. Thank you Jaws.
Nautical (6) WLcopyI don’t mind being on a boat though. I’ve been on two whale watching boats in southern California. I quite enjoyed those excursions. Thinking too much about how much water is below the boat and what is in that water can get my heart beating though. Despite my fears, I saw this post of Pinterest and liked it. Then I learned that it’s yet another Cutepolish tutorial. I swear, this time I didn’t even know I was doing one of her designs. :) Super cute, pretty easy, done.  All I need now are some boat shoes.

Nautical (9) WLcopyFor this design, I used NYX Girls White, NYX Sepia and white and red acrylics.

Floss Stripe Nails

17 Apr

Like I said, I’ve been browsing Cutepolish’s videos lately. This look is from another of her tutorials.FlossStripes (5) WLcopyWho would’ve thought to use a flosser to make stripes on your nail? Seriously, everything is a tool in some way shape or form. I guess I’m just not creative enough to see the alternate uses for things. This technique creates a very unique look that wouldn’t be easily achieved another way. I really like it.

FlossStripes (12) WLcopyFor this design I used Sinful Colors Easy Going as my base, then striped on Sinful Colors Timbleberry, China Glaze Liquid Leather, Milani Fresh Teal and OPI DS Radiance.  A little clean up was required, but otherwise, this was a really easy look to achieve.  Have you turned any unsuspecting household items as polish tools?

Twinsie Tuesday: Fictional Animal Print

16 Apr

Good Tuesday everybody! This week’s theme threw me for a bit of a loop. Knowing that we can interpret the themes for ourselves, I couldn’t decide if I should come up with my own fictional animal or if I should change or add a print to an already existing animal. I went with neither. I went with a fictional print on a fictional animal.
UnicornStripes (5) WLcopyI’m not one of those crazy unicorn people that worships them or anything. Although The Last Unicorn was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid. I own it on DVD now. I made my husband watch it with me a year or so ago. It’s quite strange really. Regardless, I love the idea of the mythical creature.

UnicornStripes (8) WLcopyIf unicorns were real and they had a pattern to their hide, I imagine it would look something like this. Striped like a zebra, but all shimmery and glittery. On top of my basic white base, I used Glitter Gal Light as a Feather for my stripes.

Easter Chevron and Stripes Nails

1 Apr

This is the mani I actually wore for Easter. Easter_stripes_chevron (3) WLcopyI don’t usually post quite so many pictures, but I loved this one so much that I just had to throw in a couple extra shots.

Easter_stripes_chevron (7) WLcopyMy base polish was OPI Swedish Nude. It’s very sheer and needed three to four coats for decent opacity, so I needed a ton of dry time before it was safe to tape my chevrons off. I slapped a top coat on it and went back to it a few hours later. Thankfully I hadn’t damaged anything in those few hours that needed touching up.

Easter_stripes_chevron (8) WLcopyFor my chevrons I used NYX Girls White.

Easter_stripes_chevron (17) WLcopyI hope everyone (who observes the holiday) had a wonderful Easter weekend! If you’re not an Easter observer, I hope you had a great weekend too!
