Plaid Nails

2 May

I’ve got some cute, comfy little red canvas shoes that have a red and blue plaid on the inside. I love little details like that. They make me happy.
Plaid_red_white_blue (3) WLcopyI used NYX Girls White for my base color then NYX Ink and China Glaze Phat Santa for my stripes.

Plaid_red_white_blue (7) WLcopyI did this mani with my left hand. This is one of those designs that I wasn’t all that thrilled about until I got the top coat on. If you ask me, the top coat really is the crown jewel of any manicure. It can take a mediocre mani and turn it in to something awesome.

Twinsie Tuesday: Ethnicity

30 Apr

Today our manis are inspired by our ethnicity. I decided a plain white mani wouldn’t be any fun, so I dug a little deeper. My ancestors on my dad’s side came from Croatia. I pulled my inspiration from the Croatian flag.

Croatia (6) WLcopyI used NYX Girls White for my base. Sinful Colors Aquamarine is the blue and the red is Color Club Reddy or Not. For the checkers on my middle and index fingers, I was planning to use tape to get those super crisp lines, but ran in to some trouble. I had my index finger all taped up, applied the red polish and when I went to pull the tape off, it kept breaking off in little pieces. This has happened to me before, but only with China Glaze Liquid Leather, so I thought it was the polish that caused it. I guess it really is the tape. I bagged the tape and freehanded the checks on. I’m pleased with them, but think they would have looked so much better if the tape had cooperated.

Nautical Nails

18 Apr

I’m not a nautical person. I’m actually terrified of open water. No, not just open water. Any body of water that is deeper than I am tall. Thank you Jaws.
Nautical (6) WLcopyI don’t mind being on a boat though. I’ve been on two whale watching boats in southern California. I quite enjoyed those excursions. Thinking too much about how much water is below the boat and what is in that water can get my heart beating though. Despite my fears, I saw this post of Pinterest and liked it. Then I learned that it’s yet another Cutepolish tutorial. I swear, this time I didn’t even know I was doing one of her designs. :) Super cute, pretty easy, done.  All I need now are some boat shoes.

Nautical (9) WLcopyFor this design, I used NYX Girls White, NYX Sepia and white and red acrylics.

Tulips Nails

15 Apr

Another Cutepolish tutorial.  I’ve been looking through them a lot lately.  I kinda want to work my way through a lot of them.

Tulips (3) WLcopyWhat better mani for this time of year than tulips. I love tulips. It makes me sad that they’re only in blossom for a few weeks each spring.

Tulips (9) WLcopyI used Sinful Colors Go Go Girl, Sally Hansen Mellow Yellow and a Milani black nail art striping polish. The Milani striping polish smears like crazy! I really need to get myself a different one. This was another super easy mani. You should check out Cutepolish’s tutorial and try it out for yourself.

Heart Dotticure

5 Apr

I wish I’d seen this post back in February. This would have been a super cute Valentine’s Day manicure. It’s pretty cute and happy anyway.DotticureHearts (6) WLcopyBecause it’s all dots it was pretty darn easy to do it with my left hand. I used a white base and all of my colors are acrylics. It reminds me of the the colorblind tests. This could be done in so many different colors. I love it!
