Twinsie Tuesday: Marching Orders

12 Feb

Happy Tuesday ladies!  This week’s theme is a fun one.  We were paired up and each had to give another Twinsie their orders for today’s mani.  Elizabeth from Did My Nails gave me my marching orders.  She wanted me to do something based on my favorite movie.FavoriteMovie (8) WLcopyI’m not going to tell you what movie this is.  I want to see if anyone can solve the riddle.  I’m not one to re-watch movies really, but I’ve seen this one many, many times.  Love it!

FavoriteMovie (11) WLcopyOn my thumb we have a cow print done with Sally Hansen White On and China Glaze Liquid Leather. On my index finger is a pineapple done with OPI The “It” Color, Sinful Colors Nirvana, Jordana Orangsicle, China Glaze Starboard and OPI Uh-Oh Roll Down the Window. My middle finger is a tree done with Essie Borrowed and Blue, Sinful Colors Nirvana, China Glaze Starboard and OPI Uh-Oh Rolls Down the Window. My ring finger was a pain in the butt! I’ve done newsprint nails before and not had problems with them, but I had to redo it like four times. I used Julep Annette as my base color for the newsprint. And finally on my pinkie we have plain old Sally Hansen White On.

FavoriteMovie (20) WLcopyFirst one to guess the right movie gets a gold star! :)

**UPDATE: For those of you who didn’t solve the riddle and didn’t find the correct answer in the comments, the movie represented is 50 First Dates.

Newsprint French

9 Jun

This is a mani I’ve been wanting to do for a long time.  I’ve been waiting for my nails to grow long enough to pull it off.  While it’s not perfect, I think the result is pretty fun.

I started a classic french manicure done with Julep Annette.  Regular newsprint is too widely spaced to fit on my french tip, so I started cutting up an old phone book as the text is more closely printed.  If you haven’t tried a newsprint mani yet, you can give it a try by following my instructions HERE.

As is customary lately, I finished off this design with Poshé.  Are you over newsprint manicures?  I still think they’re fun.  Who on Earth figured this out anyway?

Newsprint Nails

4 Oct

The first time I tried this it did not work.  I thought I knew better than the instructions and didn’t follow them very well.  A few weeks later I tried again, following the directions word for word, and they turned out awesome!  I was so excited!  I used the real estate ads that come in the free weekly circular we get in the mail.

To do this mani:

Paint your nails a base color.  I used white, but any light color would work just fine.  Your polish will need to be pretty dry, but you don’t need to wait for it to dry completely.  Get your newsprint and cut it in to small pieces that will cover your nail well.  Pay attention to gaps in the text and cut close to the letter so you won’t have too many giant blank spaces on your nail.  Grab some rubbing alcohol (I don’t believe the percentage matters) and put some in a tiny bowl or just pour it in the lid like I did.  Dip your nail in the alcohol and soak it for 10-15 seconds.  Pull your nail out and put your newprint strip right on it and press down.  Don’t rub or you’ll rip the paper and screw up your polish.  I pressed with my thumb and rocked back and forth about 10 times.  Gently peel the paper off your nail and voilà!  Repeat the process on each nail then put a good top coat on it.  I’ve also seen this done with comic strips and comic books.  I wanna give that a try too.
