I want to like this mani more than I actually do. Maybe it’s the fact that I did it with my non-dominant hand so it’s a little too far from perfect. Or maybe it’s my color choices.
I feel like Color Club Gossip Column is showing a lot darker here than it actually is. It’s a fantastic deep teal color, but it seems more like a navy over American Apparel Butter. My gold (or is it more bronze?) outlines are acrylic. I may try this again with a different color palate. We’ll see.
I’m sure it’s the color scheme of this manicure that is reminding me of the eighties. I’m a child of the eighties so I guess it’s appropriate. I love Color Club Edie. It’s such a great aqua creme. I paired it up with black and metallic gold acrylics.
A while back I picked up a Maybelline top coat. It was very nondescript and didn’t boast super shine or a quick dry. Sometimes I like a nice thin top coat to use between layers when I’m using tape or something or if I have to walk away from a mani in the middle of doing it. I’ll slap on a thin top coat to protect what I’ve already got so I can come back to it later. This manicure is a good example of why you wouldn’t want to use a cheap, thin top coat if you are looking for glassy sheen. Enlarge the pictures if you need to so you can see the scratched looking finish to these nails. A top coat like this would be fine for every day where, but definitely doesn’t provide the super shine that I like to sport.
While I’m not partial to these earrings myself, I thought this would make a fun design to try on my nails.
I have done turquoise designs before and used an acid wash technique to achieve the look. Having just tried the Saran wrap technique I decided to try it here.
I’m really pleased with the turquoise look that resulted. I added the gold lines with acrylic paint.
This isn’t really gold leafing, but the design looks like leaves to me and it’s gold paint, sooo…Color Club Gossip Column is a phenomenal blue. I would call it a deeply pigmented, dusty blue; leaning towards teal. I don’t know if that even makes sense. The gold is acrylic. These two colors are fabulous together and I’m loving the leafy pattern.
Merry Christmas!!! I hope Santa made it to your homes and that you’re all safe and happy celebrating with loved ones. That’s what I will be spending my day doing. I didn’t go crazy with my Christmas manis this year. I kept them simple and a little more grown up. I guess I was feeling more sophisticated this year.
I really like this gold mistletoe. I could just hold my hand up over my head and get all sorts of kisses from the hubs and our little one. I didn’t really try that, but I bet it would have worked.
My base polish was Revlon Rain Forest. This is the first time I’ve used it. It’s a deep, almost black base with green glitters in it. Very pretty. My mistletoe leaves and berries were acrylic. I’m loving gold lately. I need to find me a good gold polish with good coverage. Maybe a foil. Any recommendations for a gold foil polish? I love the coverage I get out of OPI DS Radiance which is a silver foil. I’d like something like that in gold.
Merry Christmas again everyone! Or Happy Holidays if you celebrate the season in a different way.
