Spray Painted

25 Jul

I fell in love with this mani when I saw it and filed it away in my “To Do” list.  I finally decided to try it out. This was the post I based my mani off of.  Really, I essentially copied it.  My colors are slightly different, but not that much.  And mine has a bit more of a splatter look to it rather than a drippy look like theirs.

This was really easy to do too.  I’ll spare you the play by play.  You can read through their tutorial if you want to do it yourself. :)  I started with a base color of Jordana Chiffon.  My blue is Sinful Colors Savage.  The red/orange is Orly Terracotta.  The silver is China Glaze Platinum Silver and my black is China Glaze Liquid Leather.

I topped it off with a quick coat of Cult Nails Wicked Fast then finished it with Jordana Quick Shine top coat.  I love designs like this that are intentionally imperfect.  You don’t have to worry about a line being perfect or something smearing when you apply your top coat.  I did have some smearage her (because I bumped my finger while the top coat was wet), but you really can’t even tell where it is because of the drippy design; blends right in.  I’m really happy with this one and love the colors together.

Twinsie Tuesday: Best Deal

24 Jul

Happy Tuesday everyone!  Today is a state holiday where I live, so we’re celebrating with a family BBQ and fireworks.  I’m hoping we won’t get rained on like we did last year, but the forecast isn’t very promising.  Keep your fingers crossed for us!

Today’s theme is our best deal (excluding gifts, swaps and giveaway winnings).  I had a hard time coming up with a polish for this one.  I’m not one to go deal shopping for anything.  If I want it, I’m generally willing to pay the asking price.  I really had to rack my brain.  Then I remembered that several months back, I paid 1¢ for two polishes.  Julep was having one of their 1¢ introductory Maven Box deals.  How can you pass up a deal like that.  It really was 1¢.  No extra surprise charges.

I’ve already shown you both of the polishes I got in that box, so I had to do something fun with one of them.  Julep Selena is a fantastic sort of chartreuse/olive green creme.  I love it!

Here, I’ve paired it with Nicole by OPI Overwhelmed.  This is a raisin colored purple shimmer.  I’ve had this polish for eons!  Really.  I think I may have stolen it from my sister when we were teenagers.  Now, I’m not that old, but I will say that I’ve been out of high school for more than a decade.

Because Overwhelmed is so old, it was a bit thick and sticky and difficult to work with.  I didn’t bother adding any thinner to it, but probably should have.  You can see it bubbled a bit.  A gorgeous color, nonetheless.

I thought these two colors complimented each other really well, so I decided to do some color blocking.  My ring finger is my favorite.

Fading Polka Dots

23 Jul

Wet ‘n Wild I Need a Refresh-Mint is a color that I can’t get enough of lately.  I had an itch to pair it up with China Glaze Platinum Silver and this was the result.

China Glaze Plantinum Silver is a pain in the butt to apply.  It bubbles like mad!  The first time I applied it, I put in on too thick so, though irritated, the bubbles didn’t surprise me.  There were sooo many that I had to start over.  The second time around, I polished it on super thin and carefully.  Still bubbled.  So frustrating!

To add a little extra something to my ring finger and thumb as accents, I threw a little Orly Terracotta in the mix.  To get that sort of marbled look, I dipped my dotting tool in both Orly Terracotta and WNW I Need a Refresh-Mint before dotting it to my nail.  This bright, red-orange looks fantastic with the blue.

I wore this on all ten fingers for several days because I loved it so much.

Edward Cullen

21 Jul

So, I’m a little late jumping on to this bandwagon, but I think I’m in love with Edward Cullen.  😉

I never had any desire to read the Twilight series.  A couple weeks ago Twilight was on TV.  I watched it out of curiosity.  The movie wasn’t good, but it definitely peeked my interest.  I bought the ebook and have been hooked.  I quickly read all four books and watched all four movies.  The movies get better as they go.  Twilight is favorite book though.

The way Stephenie Meyer describes vampire skin made me think of Glitter Gal Light as a Feather.  I had to play with it.

I sponged some Zoya Cynthia (dark teal) and Zoya Petra (dark, dusty purple) on to the tips of my nails then a tiny bit of Wet ‘n Wild On a Trip to add a little extra purple.  Then I added a couple coats of Light as a Feather over the top.  Can any Twihards guess what the sponging is supposed to represent?

If you guessed the dark circles under Edward’s eyes, you are right!  While this isn’t an obvious, in your face Twilight tribute, I’m sure the true fans will understand it.  I feel silly saying that.  This was a bandwagon I didn’t ever want to be on and I feel like this is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me.  Regardless, I’m enjoying the ride.

Orly Halley’s Comet Fishtail

20 Jul

Halley’s Comet was just begging to be teamed up with black.  Being that this color reminds me so much of a mermaid’s tail, I decided a fishtail mani would be appropriate.

I personally see the top of a heart when I look at this design, but what do I know. 😉

I added China Glaze Liquid Leather to the tip of each nail, then to accent my index and middle fingers, added another fishtail of Halley’s Comet.

I love how different Halley’s Comet looks over black.  The green is much stronger when it’s layered over black.  So pretty!  I actually wore this for several day, I loved it so much.
